Flyers G Emery to have season-ending hip surgery

03/02/2010 - Philadelphia, PA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Philadelphia Flyers announced on Tuesday that goaltender Ray Emery will have season-ending surgery to repair damage to his right hip.

The club had placed Emery, who has not skated since February 1, on long-term injured reserve Monday, due to a bothersome left-hip injury.

The procedure in question will be a bone graft to his right hip in order to relieve avascular necrosis. The surgery will be performed at an unknown date in the near future at Duke University Medical Center.

It was a sudden end to Emery's first campaign back in the NHL since he was let go by the Ottawa Senators due to poor play and discipline issues following the 2007-08 season. Emery was picked up as a free agent by the Flyers and signed to a one-year, $1.5 million deal last summer.

The 27-year-old finishes the year at 16-11-1 with a 2.64 goals-against average and three shutouts.

Michael Leighton and Brian Boucher will finish the club's final 22 games in the crease. The Flyers begin their post-Olympic slate on Tuesday in Tampa.

The AFC South and the NFC East are the favorite divisions to have the next Super Bowl champ among them in the NFL betting odds. But more down to the point, these football odds are in favor of the Indianapolis Colts, by far the strongest team in the AFC South, and the Dallas Cowboys of the NFC East.

Most sports fans would agree that these two teams top the list to win it all before the season even begins. And it is likely they will do so. The Bengals lost in the AFC Wild Card spot in a hard-fought battle against the New York Jets last season. Lest not forget the Pittsburgh Steelers, the XLII Super Bowl Champions… All these teams present interesting odds and matchups for the upcoming season, but the safest and surest bet seems to be with the Colts in the AFC South and the Cowboys in the NFC East. American Idol Betting Odds: Season 6  

The online gambling websites are in the process of deciphering each American Idol contestant and his or her chances of winning Season 6 to come up with the early American Idol betting lines.

"Blake Lewis should go far because of his uniqueness and looks.  He's the boy next store with a twist - he beat boxes.  But on top of this, he's a great singer, and I adore him," Payton O'Brien relayed.

A talented beat-boxer Blake Lewis was a hit during the group sing in Hollywood but Simon explained that this is a singing contest just before he told him he was “in.”

Paul Kim has caught our own roving reporter, Jenny Woo's eyes. 

"I love the fact that there is a Korean American on the show and he is bound to get more Asians tuning into the show," Woo said from her Miami Beach estate.  "There has never been a major presence of Asian-Americans on American Idol in the past.  He's a hottie with a nice voice so that should help to take him far.  Expect heavy betting action from the Asian community."
